The kilowatt is equal to one thousand watts. Imagine 10 100 watt light bulbs burning brightly, this is 1000 watts or one kilowatt.

One kilowatt of power is approximately equal to 1.34 horsepower. A small electric heater with one heating element can use 1.0 kilowatt. The average annual electrical energy consumption of a household in the United States is about 8,900 kilowatt-hours, equivalent to a steady power consumption of about 1 kW, for an entire year. Different appliances consume different amounts of power and not all at a constant rate. All these factors must be taken into account when selecting a generator. For example, if you wish to power your air conditioning you must consider the power necessary to start the air conditioner which can be 5 to 8 times higher than what it will consume once started. With simple measurements and calculations we can easily determine which generator will best suit your needs.
